Dr. Paul Larson joined ClearPoint Neuro in January 2026 as our inaugural Chief Medical Officer. Dr. Larson is an internationally recognized leader in functional neurosurgery. He attended medical school at the University of Arizona, and completed residency training at the University of Louisville. He began his academic career at the University of California, San Francisco in 2001. He was one of three researchers that developed a novel stereotactic methodology for MRI-guided surgery in 2003 that led to a long-standing partnership with ClearPoint in 2008. He also began collaborations with basic scientists and industry partners in 2003 to pioneer most of the delivery techniques currently in use for intraparenchymal gene and cell-based clinical trials. In 2021, Dr. Larson moved to the University of Arizona/Banner UMC-Tucson to start a second biologics research program. Thus far, his research team has helped design and perform over a dozen human clinical trials using intracranial delivery of biologics, and has served as a consultant for many more in pre-clinical development. Dr. Larson remains on the faculty at both UCSF and UofA/Banner, and performs gene therapy and cell transplantation procedures at both institutions in addition to his current role at ClearPoint.
